Event Horizon Dance – Founder

Miranda is the chief artistic influence behind Event Horizon Dance, an explosive dance company comprised of vibrant, independent dancers. Miranda has garnered the attention of Harbourfront Centre, Owl Magazine, and programs such as the CBC children’s show ‘The X’, Rogers Grand River Living and Daytime. As well, Miranda has been featured on radio, television and in print, namely CityTV, CPR24 TV, Ryerson Radio, University of Toronto (CIUT) and The Waterloo Region Record. Event Horizon Dance is both Kitchener and Toronto-based, and benefits from and contributes to the artistic vibrancy of both cities. Miranda has recently created a Costa Rican division of the company and is excited about working with new artists across the contry.

 

Dancer:

Miranda has toured across Canada and performed original and memorable works by many choreographers and dancers, including David Earle, Carol Anderson, José Limón, Sharon Moore, Michael Trent, and Keith Lee of New York City, to name a few. Miranda is also member of the break dance group So-Be-It Union, and has appeared in music videos with Masia One and Classified. The So-Be-It Union was an opening act for Maestro Fresh Wes and has performed at Harbourfront’s ‘Beats, Breaks and Culture Festival, The Big Norm Show, Footprints, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Hip-Hop Festival. She has toured to Berlin, Germany and is now performing in Costa Rica. The So-Be-It Union is a division of Event Horizon Dance and focuses primarily on urban dance forms.

Choreographer:

Miranda’s work as a choreographer has been featured at: In a White Room Performance Series, At the Wrecking Ball Performance Series, Art Gallery of Ontario, Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival (including Fall Fundraiser and Nooner), Kitchener-Waterloo Hip-Hop Expo, and Harbourfront’s ‘Beats, Breaks and Culture Festival. In addition, Miranda has choreographed pieces for the Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre, The Y.A.P. Company, and The Unionville School of the Arts. She has also choreographed the musicals Beauty and the Beast (2008) and The Wizard of Oz (2009), The 25thAnnual Putnam County Spelling Bee (2010) and Rent (2011) for Fallen Rock Productions. Miranda has produced/choreographed several full-length evenings of dance for her company within the last three years; Flight and Other Such Adventures and Dust..., both included pieces from older and current repertoire. Most recently she has collaborated with Chestnut Hall Music and choreographed and performed in A Hero's Journey (Cave of Echoes) along side Libydo and musicians; Michale Occhipinti, Guy Few, Nadina Makie Jackson, Hugh Marsh, Douglas Perry, Kevin Ramessar and mezzo-soprano Laura Pudwell.
